ChatGPT alternative for business: which tool fits which job
An AI assistant for your employees and an assistant on your website that answers customers from your own pages are two different products. Here’s what ChatGPT Business and Enterprise do, what Kyros does, and which one fits your needs.
If you’re looking for a ChatGPT alternative for business, you usually mean one of two things: an AI assistant your employees work with, or an assistant on your website that answers customers. ChatGPT Business and Enterprise are built for the first, Kyros for the second. Which one you need comes down to who is asking the questions: your team or your customers.
An AI workspace for your employees
ChatGPT Business, called “ChatGPT Team” until August 2025, is a shared ChatGPT workspace for a company’s staff: drafting text, research, data analysis and, with Company Knowledge, answering questions about content in connected apps such as Google Workspace, Slack or Microsoft 365. According to OpenAI, a standard seat costs $20 a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, with a minimum of 2 seats. Enterprise is custom-priced. A chat widget for website visitors isn’t part of the offering. OpenAI offers data residency, meaning storage in a chosen region, on Enterprise but not on Business. A data processing addendum (DPA) is available for both, and OpenAI says it doesn’t train on your organization’s data by default.
If that’s what you need, Kyros is the wrong product. Compare AI workspaces for employees with each other instead; we don’t rate those vendors on this page.
ChatGPT for your own website
The other meaning: an assistant on your website answers questions from customers and prospects, using your own pages rather than general model knowledge. That’s what Kyros does. You add the URLs of the pages the assistant should know and write Golden answers for sensitive questions. When an answer draws on your pages, numbered source links appear below it. You embed the assistant as a chat widget in your brand colors or connect it through a REST API.
ChatGPT Business has no widget for this. You can build a website assistant yourself on the OpenAI API. According to OpenAI, API usage isn’t included in a Business subscription and is billed separately; the interface, connecting your content and running it are then up to you. That’s a development project of its own. For what to budget when you build versus buy, see our overview of website chatbot costs.

GDPR and hosting in Germany: the facts
If you’re looking for a ChatGPT alternative based in Germany or with the GDPR in mind, start with the facts on location and contracts. We don’t give a compliance verdict on either product.
Kyros
- Hosted in Germany: the API and database run in Frankfurt.
- The AI model you choose per assistant is run by its provider, which processes the message, not always in Germany.
- A DPA under Art. 28 GDPR is available.
- Per the privacy policy, customer data isn’t used to train AI models. You set retention per assistant.
- Moderation checks incoming messages before the model sees them; withheld messages don’t reach it.
- Every widget has a privacy panel (“Privacy” → “Using our chatbot”) and shows the notice “AI-generated — responses may be inaccurate.”
ChatGPT Business and Enterprise (per OpenAI, as of October 1, 2026)
- Customers in the EEA and Switzerland contract with OpenAI Ireland Ltd.
- OpenAI signs a DPA for Business, Enterprise and the API through a form.
- Data residency: not available on Business; on Enterprise, available in regions including Europe (EEA and Switzerland), for new workspaces only, with inference residency also available for Europe.
- Per the EU privacy policy, data is also processed on servers in the US; transfers rely on standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions.
- OpenAI doesn’t train on your organization’s data by default on Business and Enterprise.
- On Business, admins control retention; deleted conversations are removed within 30 days.
Whether and how you use either product is for your data protection officer to assess for your specific case. The details on this page describe hosting and contracts; they aren’t legal advice.
When ChatGPT Business is the right choice
- Your employees should use AI to draft text, do research and analyze data.
- Your team wants to ask questions about internal content in Google Drive, Slack or Microsoft 365; Company Knowledge connects those apps.
- Your developers want to use AI for coding.
- You want one assistant for everyone on the team, on desktop, web and mobile, billed per seat.
- You need data residency in Europe: OpenAI offers it for new Enterprise workspaces, not on Business.
When Kyros fits
- Your website visitors should get answers from your own pages, with numbered source links below them.
- You decide which pages the assistant answers from, and you add Golden answers for sensitive questions.
- The widget should match your brand and install by following a guide for HTML, React/Next.js, WordPress, TYPO3 or the Government Site Builder.
- Your visitors speak different languages: the widget comes in 9 languages, plus Easy language (Leichte Sprache).
- Visitors should be able to leave a callback request in the chat: an Interactive Card (Beta) can ask for name, phone number and topic, for example, and submissions can be exported as CSV.
- You’d rather not build and run your own website assistant on an API, and want to start on the Starter plan at €0.
What Kyros isn’t
Kyros isn’t an AI workspace for employees: no general-purpose assistant for writing or analysis, no file uploads. The assistant doesn’t crawl a whole website; it uses the pages you list. There’s no live chat and no handoff to staff. Every widget shows the notice “AI-generated — responses may be inaccurate.”
Frequently asked questions
Can I add ChatGPT to my website?
ChatGPT Business and Enterprise are workspaces for employees, used on desktop, web and mobile; OpenAI doesn’t list an embeddable website widget for them. If you want an assistant on your own website built on OpenAI, you need the API, which is billed separately from ChatGPT Business, plus your own front end. Kyros comes with the chat widget: you list your pages and paste a snippet into your site by following the install guide.
Is ChatGPT for business GDPR-compliant?
We don’t give a verdict on that; your data protection officer assesses it for your use case. The facts per OpenAI, as of October 1, 2026: a DPA is available for Business and Enterprise, and customers in the EEA contract with OpenAI Ireland Ltd. OpenAI doesn’t train on your organization’s data by default. Data residency in Europe is offered for new Enterprise workspaces, not on Business. The EU privacy policy says data is also processed in the US, based on standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions.
How much does ChatGPT Business cost?
According to OpenAI, as of October 1, 2026, a standard seat in ChatGPT Business costs $20 a month billed annually or $25 billed monthly; a premium seat costs $100 or $125, respectively. Business is for teams of 2 to 200 employees and requires at least 2 seats. Enterprise is custom-priced. OpenAI notes that prices may vary by country and currency. API usage isn’t included in the subscription.
Does Kyros use ChatGPT?
Kyros is neither ChatGPT nor an add-on for it. For each assistant, you choose an AI model from the models in your plan; each model shows how many credits a message costs before you pick it, and “Compare models” lets you test two side by side. Answers draw on the pages you list and your Golden answers. The chosen model is run by its provider, which processes the message, not always in Germany. Which models and providers are available depends on your plan.
Can Kyros replace ChatGPT for our employees?
No, not as an AI workspace. Kyros isn’t a general-purpose assistant for writing, research or analysis, and you can’t upload files. A Kyros assistant answers questions from the pages you list and your Golden answers, on your website or through the REST API. If your team needs an AI workspace, compare providers of those. If your website visitors need answers, Kyros fits.
Is Kyros a ChatGPT alternative based in Germany?
For an assistant on your website, yes; as an AI workspace for employees, no. Kyros is a product of omniratio in Germany and is hosted in Germany: the API and database run in Frankfurt. The provider of the AI model you choose also processes the message, not always in Germany. A DPA under Art. 28 GDPR is available, and per the privacy policy, customer data isn’t used to train AI models. Whether that’s enough for your use case is for your data protection officer to assess.
