Chatbase alternative from Germany: Kyros and Chatbase compared

What Chatbase offers in German, where the data lives and what both tools cost: a fact-based comparison with sources, including where Chatbase is the better choice.

Chatbase is a platform from Chatbase Inc., based in San Francisco, for building AI agents from your own content. Is Chatbase available in German? We found no German-language Chatbase website, and we couldn’t confirm whether the dashboard or customer support is offered in German. Chat answers are a different story: Chatbase cites support for more than 95 languages, the agent replies in the user’s language, and the chat widget’s text can be translated (as of October 1, 2026).

Chatbase and GDPR: where the data lives

According to its security page, Chatbase’s database and application run on AWS in the us-east-1 region, in the United States. Its data processing agreement (DPA) also names the US as the primary place of processing and relies on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers. We found no option to choose an EU data region. Chatbase says it doesn’t use customer data to train models. Whether that’s enough for your use case is a question for your data protection advisor, not for this comparison.

Kyros: a Chatbase alternative from Germany

Kyros is built by omniratio in Germany. The dashboard, website and documentation are available in German, and the API and database run in Frankfurt. The messages themselves are processed by the provider of the AI model you choose, which doesn’t always happen in Germany. A data processing agreement (DPA, Art. 28 GDPR) is available; see data protection at Kyros.

In scope, Kyros is narrower than Chatbase. The assistant answers from pages whose URLs you paste in and from Golden answers you write yourself. Kyros doesn’t take file uploads or read in whole websites, and it has no live chat and no channels like WhatsApp. In return, answers that draw on your pages list numbered source links (we found no documentation of this for Chatbase), changes to the assistant’s settings go live only when you click “Publish,” and the widget also offers Easy language (Leichte Sprache). Which one fits depends on what you need: many sources and channels with live chat, or a focused assistant built on your web pages and hosted in Germany.

When Chatbase is the better choice

  • Your content lives in files such as PDF or Word, in Notion or in support tickets, or you want a whole website read in via crawl or sitemap.
  • Your team wants to take over conversations live: Chatbase has a helpdesk with Live Chat and creates tickets on escalation, including in Zendesk, Freshdesk, HubSpot or Salesforce.
  • You need channels beyond your website, such as email, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, phone or Slack.
  • You want to sign up on your own without contacting sales: Chatbase publishes prices for every plan except Enterprise and offers a 7-day trial on paid plans.
  • You use integrations like Stripe, Shopify, Calendly or Zapier, or want to choose among models from many vendors, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and Mistral per its pricing page.

When Kyros is the better fit

  • You want a vendor based in Germany, a German interface with German documentation, and a product hosted in Germany.
  • Answers that draw on your pages show numbered source links, so visitors can check the statement on the original page.
  • Changes to the assistant’s settings go live only when you click “Publish,” and earlier versions can be compared and restored.
  • The widget offers Easy language (Leichte Sprache).
  • Your content is already on web pages, and you don’t need live chat with staff.

What Kyros offers in practice

The features behind the Kyros column, limits included.

  • Hosted in Germany

The API and database run in Frankfurt. Your message is also processed by the provider of the AI model you choose, not always in Germany. A DPA (Art. 28 GDPR) is available, and according to its privacy policy, Kyros doesn’t use customer data to train AI models.

  • Further Links

When an answer draws on your pages, numbered source links appear below it. If your content has no answer, the assistant is instructed to say so. That’s an instruction to the model, not a guarantee.

  • Draft and version history

Changes to the assistant’s settings go live only when you click “Publish.” Up to 200 versions can be compared and restored, and Compare models shows two models side by side with their credits per message.

  • Moderation before the model

Incoming messages are checked before the model sees them. Moderation is on for every new assistant, and withheld messages never reach the model.

  • AI notice and privacy in the widget

Every widget permanently notes that answers are AI-generated and may be inaccurate, and includes a Privacy panel with “Using our chatbot.”

  • Callback request instead of live chat (Beta)

Kyros has no live chat and doesn’t hand off to staff. Instead, an Interactive Card (Beta) can collect a callback request, for example with name, phone number and preferred time; submissions are stored per Card and can be exported as CSV.

Chatbase and Kyros FAQ

Is Chatbase available in German?

Partly. We found no German-language Chatbase website: chatbase.co/de redirects to the sign-in page. We couldn’t confirm whether the dashboard or customer support is available in German. For chat answers, Chatbase cites more than 95 languages, and the agent replies in the user’s language. The widget’s text and buttons can be translated for added languages. As of October 1, 2026.

Where does Chatbase store data?

According to its security page, Chatbase’s database and application run on AWS in the us-east-1 region in the United States, managed by Supabase and Vercel. Its DPA names the US as the primary place of processing and relies on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum for transfers. We found no selectable EU data region, and we couldn’t read the sub-processor list. As of October 1, 2026.

Chatbase and GDPR: what does the vendor say?

Chatbase’s security page lists “GDPR & SOC 2 Type II Compliance.” It offers a DPA with EU Standard Contractual Clauses and says it doesn’t train models on customer data. We found no reference to the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework in its privacy policy or DPA. Kyros is hosted in Germany and offers a DPA; messages go to the provider of the AI model you choose, which doesn’t always process them in Germany. Whether a tool fits your use case is best assessed with your data protection advisor.

How much does Chatbase cost?

Per chatbase.co/pricing (as of October 1, 2026, USD, billed monthly): Free at $0 with 50 message credits per month, Hobby at $40 with 700, Standard at $150 with 4,000 and Pro at $500 with 15,000 credits; Enterprise on request. Yearly plans are 20% off. Extra credits cost $40 per 1,000, and removing “Powered By Chatbase” costs $99 a month. Agents on the free plan are deleted after 14 days of inactivity.

What does Chatbase offer that Kyros doesn’t?

Chatbase accepts files such as PDF and Word, whole websites via crawl or sitemap, Notion and support tickets as sources; Kyros uses only page URLs you paste in and Golden answers. Chatbase has a helpdesk with Live Chat and escalation to staff, plus channels such as WhatsApp, Instagram and phone. Kyros has no live chat; an Interactive Card (Beta) can collect a callback request instead. Chatbase also publishes prices for every plan except Enterprise, while Kyros does so only for Starter.

How much does Kyros cost?

The Starter plan is €0, permanently, with no credit card required. It includes one assistant with a chat widget and monthly credits. Every message uses credits, and each model shows its credits per message before you choose it. Kyros doesn’t publish prices for Pro and Business; they’re available on request. If you need fixed prices to plan ahead, Chatbase has the edge here.
